Abstract

This study aims to examine the relevance of the hadith on seeking knowledge in shaping the character of Indonesia’s young generation amid the moral crisis caused by rapid social change and technological advancement. The decline of ethical behavior, the rise of juvenile delinquency, and the weak implementation of character education highlight the urgency of a deeper religious-based approach. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method and a descriptive-analytical design by analyzing hadiths on the obligation to seek knowledge, Islamic character education literature, and recent studies. The data were analyzed using content analysis with source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that the hadith on seeking knowledge not only emphasizes academic obligation but also contains values of propriety, honesty, responsibility, discipline, and perseverance, which play an important role in forming individuals with noble character. These values are relevant in addressing the challenges of globalization, strengthening moral integrity, and fostering students’ spiritual awareness. The integration of hadith values into education has been proven to enhance learning motivation and ethical behavior when supported by exemplary teachers and a conducive school environment. This study recommends revitalizing hadith-based character education as a comprehensive solution to forming a knowledgeable, faithful, and morally upright generation that is critical, adaptive, and responsible.
