Abstract

Rapid social changes due to technological advances, globalization, and shifting cultural values require Islamic Education (PAI) teachers to improve their professionalism in order to overcome the challenges of the times. This study aims to analyze the role of professionalism of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers as the key to dealing with complex social changes and maintaining spiritual and moral values in education. The main questions in this study include: what are the characteristics of the professionalism of Islamic Religious Education teachers, what challenges do they face in the context of social change, and what strategies can be implemented to strengthen their level of professionalism. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, through data collection techniques involving documentation from various relevant journals and literature sources. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the professionalism of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers consists of four main dimensions, namely: pedagogical, personality, social, and professional competence. PAI teachers face difficulties caused by technological developments, changes in student values, and a lack of support from institutions. Through capacity building, academic supervision, and the strengthening of spiritual values, PAI teachers can act as flexible agents of change with high integrity in the face of contemporary social changes.
